Secret Santa generator

One link for the whole group: everyone picks their name, scratches their card and finds out who they're buying a gift for.

1/3

Who's taking part?

Add everyone's name, including yours if you're taking part.

Tip: paste a whole list and each name becomes a bubble.

You need at least 3 participants

Nobody, not even the organiser, can see who's buying for whom.

How to organise a Secret Santa online

It takes two minutes, whether it's for family, friends or the office.

1. Create your Secret Santa

Type or paste the names. Add a budget, the exchange date and exclusions if you like.

2. Share one link

Post it in the WhatsApp group, send it by email or show the invitation card with its QR code.

3. Everyone scratches their card

Everyone picks their name, scratches their card and adds their wishes. You can see who has taken part, without seeing the results.

The rules of a great Secret Santa

A few simple rules to share before the draw, so everyone has a good time.

One budget for everyone

Set the same amount for everyone, so nobody feels awkward about receiving more than they gave. Between colleagues, a small budget is usually enough.

A date and a place

Announce the day of the exchange from the start: Christmas dinner, office party, Christmas Eve or a video call for a remote group.

Keep the secret

Nobody reveals who they drew before the exchange. On the day, everyone can try to guess who their Secret Santa was.

Ideas to help

Ask everyone to share two or three wishes or hobbies, so no gift ends up at the back of a drawer.

Well-chosen exclusions

Exclude couples and people who already buy each other presents: Secret Santa is about treating someone else.

A little note

An unsigned note slipped in with the gift makes the exchange warmer and keeps the mystery alive.

Frequently asked questions

Everything you need to know about this online Secret Santa generator.

Is this Secret Santa generator free?
Yes, 100% free, with no ads, no sign-up and no email address needed. You can organise as many Secret Santas as you like, with up to 60 participants each.
How do participants find out who they drew?
You share a single link in the WhatsApp group, by email, by text or with the QR code invitation card. Everyone opens the link, picks their name and scratches their card to find out who they're buying a gift for.
Can the organiser see the results?
No. The draw is made on our servers and is never shown to the organiser, so they can take part like everyone else. Their dashboard only shows who has already seen their draw.
What stops someone from picking another person's name?
Once picked, a name is locked to that person's device: nobody else can select it. To switch phones, everyone can keep their personal link, offered right after they pick their name. If someone makes a mistake, the organiser can unlock the name, or redo the draw if the secret is out.
What is the wish list for?
Each participant can add their wishes: gift ideas, hobbies, things they don't like. Only the person who drew them can see them, under their scratch card. When creating the group, the organiser chooses: wishes before the draw (they open the scratch cards once everyone has replied, and each person discovers who they're buying for along with their wishes), the draw straight away (wishes appear as soon as they're added), or the draw without wishes.
Can I stop two people from drawing each other?
Yes, with exclusions: a couple, siblings or two people who already exchange gifts won't be able to draw each other. If the exclusions make the draw impossible, the tool tells you.
How do I organise a Secret Santa at work?
Create the Secret Santa with your team's names, then download the invitation card with its QR code: attach it to an email, post it on Teams or Slack, or print it. Everyone scans the QR code with their phone. The dashboard lets you remind anyone who hasn't taken part yet.
What happens to the names and wish lists?
They're only used for the Secret Santa and are deleted automatically 45 days after the exchange date (90 days if no date is set). The organiser can delete everything at any time from their dashboard.
A participant forgot who they drew. What can they do?
They open the group link again on the same phone, or their personal link on any device: their draw and the wishes of the person they drew appear straight away. Otherwise, the organiser unlocks their name, and they pick it again to get the same draw.
Who makes this tool?

What is Secret Santa?

Secret Santa is a gift exchange where each participant buys one gift for a person drawn at random, without revealing who they are. Instead of buying a present for everyone, everyone gives one gift and receives one.

It's a favourite at the office, among friends and in big families: it keeps the Christmas budget down and gives everyone the chance to find a gift that's really meant for one person.

Names used to be drawn from a hat, with the risk of drawing your own name and having to start again. An online Secret Santa generator solves that: nobody draws themselves, couples can be excluded and people who live far away find out who they drew on their phone.

This tool is free, needs no sign-up and never asks for an email address. It keeps the fun of drawing names from a hat: everyone scratches their card to reveal their draw, then reads the wish list of the person they’re buying for.
